  • Volume recruitment

  • Fast-track onboarding of over 1,200 doctors

  • 104 new doctors recruited and onboarded

  • 1,200 doctors activated on a new digital platform

The challenge:

Reed Talent Solutions have worked with our client, a well-known London-based NHS trust for more than a decade, providing a fully outsourced staff bank solution covering clinical and non-clinical staff.

We were asked in November 2019 to extend this service to include a new doctor’s bank and incorporate this seamlessly into the existing bank management.

This doctor’s bank needed to be implemented across five hospitals at a time when the busy winter season was fast approaching.

The aim was to achieve full control, visibility of shifts required, enhanced compliance and improved governance.

Due to the time of year, we were tasked with rolling out this additional bank at pace, ensuring all service users across the five hospital sites were fully trained in time for the busiest periods when demand for doctors is at a height.

The solution:

Having selected our digital platform of choice for the trust, we commenced a 12-week implementation programme.

To bolster our existing team knowledge, we appointed two additional team members, both specialists in doctor staff bank management. They played an integral role during the implementation, and beyond moving into service delivery.

A steering group with representatives of each division across the trust was established, enabling us to deliver on time against our phased approach. This included face-to-face training to every service user across each hospital site, over an eight-week period.

Additionally, we conducted an extensive programme of engagement with all doctors that had worked at the trust in the prior year, encouraging them to register via the new digital platform, to ensure maximum utilisation of trust substantive doctors.

 The results:

  • Our dedicated onsite team onboarded over 1,200 doctors from January to April 2020.

  • Over 650 doctors actively worked on the doctor’s bank during the time period.

  • The trust, for the first time, gained full visibility of cost and spend on doctor staffing. As a result, it is now able to identify, understand, and tackle areas of spend - including escalated rate behaviours and high-sessional usage.

  • Full site implementation was delivered on time.
