We recently put this principle into practice through a collaborative clean-up event that highlights our strong partnership with the Greater London Authority (GLA) and Transport for London (TfL), and our shared commitment to creating a better London for everyone.

Our GLA account management team organised and participated in a community litter-picking event in the London Borough of Newham. This initiative directly supports TfL's core social value goals, particularly its mission to foster a safer, healthier, and more sustainable city. By rolling up our sleeves, we not only helped beautify a local neighbourhood but also reinforced our dedication to environmental stewardship and community wellbeing.

From planning to action: A collaborative effort

The success of any community initiative relies on careful planning and collaboration. TfL's focus on sustainability and creating a thriving London resonated deeply with our own company ethos. This led to the idea of a hands-on event that would deliver a direct, positive impact.

Our account management team researched various locations, seeking a community where our efforts could make a meaningful difference. The team selected Newham, a choice of strategic significance as it is home to TfL’s Endeavour Square office.

To bring the event to life, we contacted Newham Council, whose support was instrumental. The council not only granted permission for the clean-up but also provided the necessary equipment for our volunteers. This three-way collaboration between Reed Talent Solutions, TfL, and Newham Council was a perfect example of how public and private entities can work together for the common good.

With plans in place, members of our dedicated account management team volunteered their time. Alice Ginman, Chantelle Sharan, Jane Goodwin, Pooja Minhas, and Chris Sliney stepped forward, ready to make a tangible contribution.

The impact: Cleaner streets and a healthier environment

Over two hours, the team worked diligently, clearing litter from several streets and green spaces around the Endeavour Square area. The visible transformation of the public spaces was immediate, but the impact of this work goes much deeper.

Removing litter from our streets does more than just improve their appearance. It plays a vital role in protecting the urban environment. Discarded waste can pollute our soil and waterways, harm local wildlife, and create unsafe conditions for residents. By clearing this debris, our team contributed directly to a healthier ecosystem.

This action aligns perfectly with TfL's goal to “operate in a sustainable way to protect and regenerate the natural world”. Our efforts help reduce pollution, protect animals from harmful materials, and promote a cleaner, safer environment for the Newham community. It’s a small step that contributes to the larger, long-term goal of fostering a sustainable city for future generations.

Strengthening partnerships through shared values

This clean-up event was a powerful demonstration of our commitment to working alongside our partners to achieve shared goals.

By actively participating in an initiative that supports their sustainability objectives, we reinforced the strength and depth of our partnership. It showcased that our collaboration extends beyond business operations and into a shared dedication to social responsibility.

Looking ahead, we are excited to continue this journey. We plan to keep supporting TfL’s social value initiatives, ensuring that our goals and values remain aligned. This event has set a fantastic precedent for future collaborative projects aimed at making meaningful contributions towards a better London.

Through teamwork and a shared vision with TfL and Newham Council, we have made a positive impact on a local community, demonstrated our commitment to sustainability, and strengthened a vital partnership. We believe that by working together, we can continue to build a safer, healthier, and more prosperous London for all.
