At Reed Talent Solutions, we’re committed to supporting our clients to build stronger, more resilient communities. At the end of 2025, we partnered with the Money and Pensions Service to support Bedford-based IMPAKT Housing, a charity dedicated to ending the cycle of homelessness. Our joint volunteering day was more than just a gesture of goodwill; it was a powerful reminder of how targeted action can create meaningful, measurable change.
This initiative brought the Reed Talent Solutions and Money and Pensions Service teams together to provide practical support for people navigating the housing crisis. It offered a profound insight into the realities of hidden homelessness and the vital role that organisations like IMPAKT play in providing not just a roof, but a foundation for a new beginning.
More than a roof: The mission of IMPAKT Housing
IMPAKT Housing is a cornerstone of support in Bedford, providing a lifeline for individuals and families facing homelessness, domestic abuse, and other challenging circumstances. Their mission is to break the revolving door of homelessness by addressing its root causes with dignity and compassion.
With over 200 bed spaces in supported housing, they create a safe, aspirational environment where people can heal from the trauma of housing instability. The support provided is holistic, equipping residents with the skills and confidence needed for long-term independent living.
The organisation’s impact radiates throughout the community through several key services:
Domestic abuse support:
Two dedicated teams provide crucial support and resettlement services for those fleeing abusive situations.
Community larder:
A free-to-use larder ensures that local families have access to essential food supplies.
Affordable furniture & upcycling:
An affordable used furniture outlet and a boutique upcycling shop not only benefit the environment but also fund their non-profit services.
A day of action and unexpected lessons
Our team arrived ready to roll up their sleeves, but they left with a fundamentally shifted perspective. The day began with an eye-opening session that dismantled common myths about homelessness. While many associate homelessness with rough sleeping, we learned that this accounts for only one per cent of the issue. The vast majority, around 92%, involves people in temporary accommodation, sofa surfing, or staying in unsafe situations because they have nowhere else to go.
This ‘hidden homelessness’ is happening all around us. People are going to work, children are attending school, and families are trying to maintain a sense of normality while facing unimaginable instability. It was a stark reminder that a stable home is the floor, not the ceiling. Without it, focusing on budgeting, employment, or future planning is nearly impossible.
Turning intentions into tangible impact
Inspired and informed, we channelled our energy into practical activities that would make a direct difference to the people IMPAKT supports. Together, we were able to contribute in several ways:
Warmth and dignity:
We donated 65 coats to adults and children. A warm jacket is a simple item, but for someone starting over, it provides essential warmth, dignity, and one less thing to worry about.
A personal touch:
We spent time wrapping presents for residents. This small act sends a powerful message: you are seen, you are valued, and you are not alone during difficult times.
Providing breathing space:
A further donation of 53x £5 vouchers, totalling £265, was made. This provides individuals with the flexibility to buy essentials, cover a small bill, or simply have a bit of financial breathing room when everything feels heavy.
Our social return on investment
Our collaboration with the Money and Pensions Service was about creating verifiable impact. The day volunteering at IMPAKT Housing reminded us that meaningful change often starts with small, human acts of support. By coming together, we were able to make a positive difference - and we left with a deeper commitment to building communities where everyone has the chance to feel safe, valued, and supported. We look forward to continuing our work and helping create long-term, sustainable change.
